RAOK was founded by a mother and daughter in 1999. It has grown from those two seeds to an astonishing network of volunteers around the world. In 1982, in a restaurant in Sausalito, CA the phrase "practice random acts of kindness and senseless acts of beauty" was written on a placemat. Anne Herbert - Berkley writer and activist - could not have anticipated the significant influence her phrase would have on people. You've probably seen a bumper sticker or two.
