Blog the Vote

Done! I voted for Kerry.

It took about an hour. I arrived at the small school that is my polling place. There was a line out the building and down the sidewalk, but it moved at about the pace of a roller coaster ride line at Six Flags. There were no representatives of either party in attendance, no pollsters, no cameras, no fake Kerry reps making bad impressions, nothing. I had phone numbers, camera, and cellphone in hand, but there was no need. Of course, we are using paperless computerized voting with no paper trail, so there is that to consider. However, this part of Atlanta is likely to have its votes counted - I worry more about south Atlanta in that regard.

I fell into a wonderful conversation with the woman ahead of me in line. Then a group of us discussed the relative merits of the second state amendment proposal, which has to do with whether lower courts can clear up a matter of state law before trying a case. I voted for one republican - the democrat wasn’t qualified for the job, in my opinion. I don’t know how much difference my wee vote will make here in Georgia, but I did my duty - and I have to say, it was really fun. Jehovah’s Witnesses don’t vote (and probably that’s a good thing - lol) and so I have an unusual feeling when I vote - there is a little transgressive charge mixed in with the feeling of fulfilling a duty, rising to the occasion, and participating in the process of our representative democracy.

I added my Georgia peach “I’m a Georgia voter” to the others on my computer - and now, it’s all watching and waiting.

Go Kerry Go!

Great! This is why I’m voting for Kerry and NOT Bush.

I have voted for Kerry! And, I gave a neighbor a ride to the polls. Sounds like a great turnout ’round the country is happening.
