New Site Design
About once a year or so, I get bored with the way my site looks. Unfortunately, my main site now has hundreds of pages, and I really like to change things all around, not just the colors and such. Despite the fact that I really and truly had a lot more important things to do, I’ve gone ahead and revamped http://www.virushead.net/
Of course that means new banners, new guestbook designs and all the rest as well – which I haven’t gotten to as yet. I may even redo the blog. I’ve got about 80% of the thing done and uploaded, making changes on each page as I redo it. The colors are darker – I was worn out with looking at the dreamy light blues I favored for the site (the blog has more of a melon influence).
For the design, I used a photograph I took of the upper branches of one of the largest live oaks in Florida and played with it for a while until I liked what I saw. It looks a lot better in the original, of course – but I couldn’t use a header image that was 244k! Optimized, it was still a little large, so I only used the full image in the front page, and an abbreviated form on the inner pages. I’ll probably jiggle and tweak some things in css over the next couple of weeks – but I think this will be fine for a while as the basic structure. It’s a hodgepodge of table and divs – but I like the different effects each allows and I really don’t see why people get all fired up about using one or the other. What matters to me is whether it works!
So now I am still up – waayyyyy past my bedtime – but not for long! Night night, dear earth.

You are a genius!
I agree about using what works, but the nice thing about using all CSS is you wouldn’t be updating your pages one by one. Just change around the .css file upload it and viola, a completely new site layout/design/colorscheme/etc. across all pages.
