Sheehan divorce - nice timing

Cindy Sheehan’s husband filed for divorce and the documents are already in the public realm. I wonder what the back story is on that - doesn’t the timing seem a little odd?

What, he couldn’t have waited a few weeks? Is he just a total jerk?

Or perhaps he was convinced to make it a public matter - by who? with what carrot or stick? Isn’t it interesting that now her personal life will be up for the hyenas to chew.

It seems that accusing her of using her son’s death for personal gain isn’t enough. Although they’ve got some people repeating it, the claim is a bit absurd. George won’t even say what the real “noble cause” is for which these soldiers die - he uses and disregards them - they are just cattle. But a mother who loses her son wants an explanation of what he died for, and she’s the one “using” him for her own gain? Sorry, but I’m a mom, and this accusation doesn’t wash. He was a good man and she was his mother.

Accusing her of demoralizing the troops, empowering the enemy and so on isn’t enough for the PR spin either. What puts our soldiers in danger and in harm’s way isn’t disagreement among ourselves, but the wholesale reoganization of what America is all about. George’s policies have put us (and them) into more danger, not less. Besides, some of our soldiers must be a little glad that one of their own has someone that cares enough to do everything in her power to find out what he died for, really. I know that some of them are wondering too. They are loyal, they will of course follow orders - but they are the boots on the ground. Might be nice to get a straight word now and then.

Demonizing her because she is getting a world of support - from oooo-oooh left-wing organizations and people isn’t enough. They try to tar her by association, but anyone who really has followed what has happened in the country has to laugh. They make them sound like radicals - hey, they don’t even have any anarchists there at the Crawford event, and if the people and groups they name are the extent of the radical left, I think we’ve gotten hopelessly lame.

Threatening to arrest her, repeatedly warning her that the secret service cars might hit her or her supporters… none of that is enough.

I’m happy to see a woman standing out and making a difference again - just by stubbornly pointing out the obvious and asking for a discussion that should have been happening before we invaded. Now it really is the duty of this administration to give a credible account, given the evidence we have, for our presence in Iraq.

But now, observe. This situation has struck a chord on both sides. We’re going to see some ugliness I fear.
