Hand Fair Wages for Hurricane Victims
Every single Democrat and Independent in the House of Representatives have united to co-sponsor a bill to overturn Bush’s anti-worker and anti-family decree that benefits only the Haliburtons and other big companies seeking big contracts for Gulf cleanup.
Now, we have an opportunity to defeat another misguided Bush policy—his decree that cuts wages for Katrina survivors hired by federal rebuilding and clean up contractors. The simple principle of a fair wage for a fair day’s work is one of the foundations
of social and economic security. Any practice or policy which denies those who are struggling to rebuild their lives not only flies in the face of this principle, it is inhumane and unjust. America is supposed to be a land of opportunity for the down-trodden, not a place where the “Haves” enrich themselves on the backs of the “Have Nots”!
