Scott - you're said before that you were going to stop posting here, so your word isn't worth much.

It is not a baseless accusation. Look it up. Condi had a oil tanker named after her. The industry donates heavily to Republicans, and they have cronies on the agencies responsible for regulation. Frist and Hastert were the ones who blocked the heads of the oil industry from having to be sworn in for their "testimony" - during which they lied.

Keep your head in the sand if you want. It's your path and your decision. But all of the information is readily available, on a variety of sites, new agencies, investigative studies, and even in governmental records.

Yes, I link to actions which are intended to block some of the damage done by this increasingly fascistic administration.

People like you and me are not in the demographic that will benefit from actions of this administration. If you think they care one whit about you or your interests, think again. It amazes me that they could have supporters among NASCAR fans, blue collar workers, regular churchgoers....

To say the least, their war on Americans is going much better than their fight against terror.

Wake up. This is a slash and burn zone. We're all going to pay for this administration's corruption.

I really do applaud you for your passion that you show toward your posts on this blog, but I find myself disagreeing with much of what you post. However, when you have offered evidence and not just links to fellow anti-Bush site or blogs I have accepted the information. But I draw the line when you post baseless accusations (like in your note) and I feel it necessary to comment.

Oh, a note - in case you could somehow be unaware....

The Republican majority and the Bush energy plan are bought and paid for by the oil/gas industry. Don't look to them to protect our national interests on these issues.

On clearcutting: In the case above, the company has advertised their wood as "environmentally friendly" - wood that has been clear-cut _without consent_ from treaty-protected indigenous territory within Canada’s threatened Boreal Forest. If nothing else, can't you even see that it is false advertising? Weyerhaeuser has not sought nor gained FSC certification, but instead invested in discrediting FSC and LEED (the national green building standard). Their actions also water down the market share in the green building industry (by far the fastest growing segment of the construction industry).

Do you really want to see forests cut down for kleenex? Wreck the planet for...office supplies? Why not use at least partial recycled product? How about in the case of paper products, that they at least use the "fake woods" they plant anyway when they destroy woodland ecosystems? Why couldn't it be a crop, like christmas trees? If they persist in these practices, there just won't be wood available for future homes. It's a long-range planning issue, among other things.

On Oil: We are dependent on the death culture of foreign oil because we are dependent on oil period. The question is how to start now to reduce that dependency and to come up with alternative technologies for heating and industrial energy, driving our cars, creating our plastics, and so on. We've actually explored quite a bit in this country already - ask any geologist. We are the 4th largest producer of oil in the world. The gains we would achieve by our slash and burn methods are quite small - even in Alaska, the quantity we'd get isn't worth the damage. As it is, these companies don't take responsibility for the damage they do locally - from oil seepage and spills, and a host of other things. In addition, they have WAAAYYYY too much political power and are given WAAAAYYY to much in the way of tax breaks and so on.

One example of the culture of death we support, from ExxonMobil

In June 2001, ExxonMobil became the target of a lawsuit in the Federal District Court of the District of Columbia, under the Alien Tort Claims Act. The suit alleged that the company knowingly assisted human rights violations, including torture, murder and rape, by employing and providing material support to Indonesian military forces, who committed the alleged offenses in Aceh. Human rights complaints involving ExxonMobil's relationship with the Indonesian military first arose in 1992; numerous inquiries have found evidence of human rights violations on ExxonMobil property and/or committed by Indonesian troops guarding ExxonMobil facilities. The company denies these accusations and filed a motion to dismiss the suit, which is still pending as of 2005. The U.S. State Department filed an opinion in the case in July 2002, requesting that the suit, brought by the International Labor Rights Fund, be dismissed on national security grounds.

I am going to throw this back on you a little bit. We hundreds of thousands of new houses being built in this country and the need for wood products are astronomical, where do you suppose the wood is going to come from? A company like Weyerhaeuser needs a source for the lumber, where do they get it if it isn't where you don't want them to? Same thing can be said about oil, we are dependent on foreign oil because we are not doing enough to explore and drill for oil in our country. All we need to do is explore more in this country and we wouldn't be dependent on foreign oil and that would help to drive down the cost of a barrel of oil. The other thing we need to do is increase our oil refinery capacity by four fold and that will help to drive down the price of a gallon of gasoline.

Again, "OfficeMax’s two largest competitors, Staples and Office Depot, have already committed publicly to increase recycled content in the paper they sell and avoid sourcing paper from endangered forests."

Just because Office Max does business with the third largest logger doesn't mean yoiu can tie any of the concerns you have with the logging company to Office Max, they are a office supply company.

That is like blaming Dell computers or IBM for a problem you have with Exxon-Mobil.

I agree with you on the wind farm issue, it is the cleanest renewable energy source that we have and I can't believe that anyone would have problem with it. Here in Oklahoma we have several big wind farms and the supply power for many of our rural counties and towns.
