I highly doubt the private sector is able to make advances in scientific study without the tentacles of government attached. More importantly, what advances can be made "Privately" that have not already been systematically studied and tested, and possibly withheld by Government sponsored research ? What bills will be paid in the last days of the second Bush empire ? The cost of killing others in foriegn lands ( in order to save future lives, of course) is not cheap.
