Keep Lead on the EPA Pollutant List

EPA Set to Abandon 30 Years of Air Quality Control

Tell the EPA that it must continue to use the best available science to protect the air we breathe from dangerous lead pollution.

Lead is one of the most harmful toxins on Earth and is especially hazardous for children. Incredibly, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is considering removing lead entirely from the list of pollutants it controls under the Clean Air Act. Tell the EPA that it must continue to use the best available science to protect the air we breathe from dangerous lead pollution.

Tell the EPA
(Union of Concerned Scientists)

Ingestion or inhalation of even low levels of lead poses severe risks to humans. Lead poisoning damages the major organs and causes osteoporosis, high blood pressure, heart disease, anemia, memory problems, and seizures. Children are at the greatest risk, as low levels of lead can cause lowered IQ levels and learning deficits.

Whoa, there has to be more to the story or the EPA would not have dropping lead under consideration.

Why would a lay person want to advise EPA without knowing more about it?

Cheers,

First, “laypeople” are not advising. They are registering their comments as citizens under the suggestion of concerned scientists that are keeping watch on the Bush administration.

Secondly, if you go to the action site, there is a lot more information. The EPA has really gone downhill under this administration and we should be watching. The basic issue is that the EPA seems to think they have done enough to deal with lead pollution. Under the pro-corporate/manufacturing, anti-consumer health direction of the Bush administration, money-making is more important than people’s lives. Go to their main main to see the range of issues, or see any number of other websites to get more information about the erosion of watchdog government agencies.

Thirdly, I trust that my readers know how to use a search engine to do research for themselves. It’s something that I encourage everyone to do.

For those that want to register their view on this matter, the deadline approaches. I find it hard to imagine that anyone who doesn’t directly benefit from lead pollution could be “pro-lead.”
