My wife’s family-who fancy themselves the really “tight” type-have a Christmas gathering every year that I call “The Night of the Long Knives,” because every single year they stab each other at the dinner table (meatphorically, of course) until the blood flows freely.

I never pulled any punches with my relatives, and they never did with me. To hear us together would make you think we were lifetime enemies, but we’ve always closed ranks when trouble from outside loomed. My wife’s family pretends civility and togetherness, but they cannot stand each other in reality. I like my family and their way better
