Who Will Get the Edwards Votes?

Who Will Get the Edwards Votes?

I wonder if there might have been any behind-the-scenes action to push Edwards out. I can’t believe he didn’t stick in the race – at least until after Super Tuesday! ARGGHHHH.

So, what happens to us John Edwards supporters? Who will get the votes?

John Edwards had the actual plans across the board. I hope the remaining candidates will make their own plans more progressive, but I doubt they will.

I can only speak for myself, and I haven’t completely decided – although at this point, I have to lean toward Hillary Clinton.

My reservations about Barack Obama are mostly about foreign policy. I didn’t like what he said about Iran, and I fear that he may be more conservative than people think. There are too many followers and not enough people asking informed questions. The other small thing that bothers me is that calling him black seems a little racist, like the infamous “one drop” rule. The fact that he’s multi-racial should be a good thing, taking some of the either/or quality off the race debate. Somehow it’s not working that way.

Hillary Clinton is strong, and caring, and flexible, and shrewd enough to do the job well. The main problem is that so many people really hate her. And why? Because she shows all the qualities of a good leader, but happens to be female? So “assertive” becomes “bitchy”? And at the same time, she has one second of choking up during a luncheon (if you blinked, you would have missed it) and that becomes a media circus in which she is portrayed over and over as “weepy”? It seems very misogynistic to me. Still, I would love to get Ted Kennedy alone in a room and get him to tell me why he has rejected Clinton for Obama. That really surprised me.

It’s not enough just to be non-white, or non-male. Those things really don’t matter so much at this point in our history, and I’m over my idealism (thank you Condi Rice).

We have big, big problems in this country, and a huge mess – involving a number of crucial issues – to be addressed.

Who is going to be able to come through most successfully for all Americans, for the country as a whole, and for this country’s relationships with other countries and the world?

That’s my question, and it hasn’t been answered yet.

It really wouldn’t surprise me if there was. The primaries are not how the nominee is picked. The nominee is chosen by the party leaders. Primaries are nothing but a way for the party leaders to gauge who they believe will have a better chance of winning. That goes for both parties.

And as for why Kennedy endorsed Obama instead of Hilary, it’s not that hard to figure out. Kennedy doesn’t really care who the nominee is. He wants a Democrat in the White House. And as you said yourself, a lot of people don’t like Hilary. Most people don’t really have any strong opinions about Obama. So with the current political climate and with Obama as the nominee they really can’t lose this election.

  2. Well, I’ve been backing Hillary since the beginning. . . heck I was hoping she would get into the race. And it’s for a plain and simple reason, that I believe she’s capable. Does it mean she would have a successful term (especially after the huge mess created by the bozo and twit in office now), of course not, but she has shown herself to be capable. I was interested in John Edwards among a couple others four years ago, but now, I just saw it a little differently.

Does that mean Obama’s not capable, he might very well be — but I do go back and forth between wondering if he could use a little more experience. Sometimes I think people use that as a bad word, but the thing is there is a difference between experience and being brainwashed by DC. I think people equate the two — and while it sure is true for some, it doesn’t have to be for all. But yeah, I hear once in a while people say that he gives great speeches but not much on specifics. Well, that does tend to be the story of any politician, but you need to mention something once in a while.

Ah, okay, I’m rambling now. . . so I’ll be quiet for now. LOL 🙂

  3. I am heartbroken. I actually believed, for a few moments, that I was going to be able to vote in a primary for someone I WANTED to be Prez, not just the better of 2 or 3 others candidates. No such luck. First went Kucinich, the only true Democrat in the entire bunch, then Edwards, who I admire for his growth and increasingly populist stands. Hillary is too much of a REPUG for my taste, to “in” with the old crowd and their old ways of doing things. Obama speaks well and seems to have the charisma Clinton lacks, but, no experience. And, he seems much too malleable at this early stage in his career. But, I shall prob vote for him, even though I would dearly love to see a woman break the WH glass ceiling. And, yes, I shall vote, if only to get the Repugs out in the cold.

  4. I’m a Republican, but if I were a Democrat I’d have to vote for Hillary. It’s unfortunate that Washington has to be navigated in order to get anything accomplished, but that’s the fact. Hillary would be better at negotiating Washington waters and had the best chance at acheiving. anything. her contacts and experience are far greater than Obama’s.

Obama’s a wonderful wordsmith and has the enchantment factor hands down. I believe he’s terribly inexperienced and just plain naive regarding foreign affairs. groom him in a high level position and run him again in 4 or 8 years. Geez, the guys not very old.

The economy will decide this election. If it still stinks in late summer the Dems have a great shot.

    Best!
