Heidi,

We all need safe spaces to wander and explore. True friends and functional families can provide that to a very great extent. Psychotherapy consists in large part of providing such a place for the client to explore the self. And children's literature isn't just for children. I still have fond memories of reading Maurice Sendak's "Where the Wild Things Are" as an adult.

Sorry to go off topic, but I just discovered www.blogrush.com and www.widgetbox.com. You might want to use them for promoting your site.

As a child, I too loved books that took me far, far away from the ordinary world. I still like reading children's and fantasy books. In fact, I never gave my children or grandchildren any book, I hadn't read first.

I also insist on children's books and poetry to lend themselves to reading out loud. Language has rhythm and I expect to hear it, even in adult fiction!

I'm glad that there are writers like Steven Brooks around, maybe I'll send his book to one of my great grandchildren.
