Adjuncts are usually highly trained and at the very least deserve benefits and better pay for doing the brunt of the work at the university. I'll be adjuncting after this semester, as my husband has two years to go on his PhD, and it will help kill time. I'd love to unionize us. But that's very complicated. If you think getting tenured faculty (or even people with at least non-tenuous position in the university) to support adjuncts, you should watch the reaction on adjuncts' faces when you suggest they unionize! Everyone is scared silly, and I'm not sure why. The university couldn't function without them. They'd be forced to listen.

It really is a sad state. The Georgia University System is not much better. We need to get the word out to the public at large. The governors and legislators somehow manage to convince people that they are supporting education.

Oh man. My second daughter has finally become accustomed to the idea of college when she graduates this year and you're not giving me much hope for her. I hope the school she is attending will be a bit better than what I'm reading here!
