Robert Detweiler – Rest in Peace
I have just received the news that Robert Detweiler died at his home on St. Simon’s Island yesterday.
Bob Detweiler was the reason that I moved to Atlanta. He was my original dissertation director at Emory and became a dear dear friend.
I am without words right now. It’s just sinking in.
So for now – only – Be at peace, Bob. Your work is done.

It will take all of us quite some time to express what Bob Detweiler made it possible for us to do and to become. I had been thinking over the holiday weekend that the time was short in which we could express those thoughts to him directly, and the time was shorter than I knew.
Bob’s comments on my dissertation and his words of wisdom to this struggling doctoral student are all the more precious now. This is for me another lesson in the danger of losing touch with friends.
