    VanderMeer’s New Digs

One of my very favorite contemporary writers has a new combined blog/website.

    Check it out:

    Jeff VanderMeer – Ecstatic Days

Jeff VanderMeer is a genius of speculative fiction. The experience of reading his fantastical and witty works sometimes approaches something like the sublime. My admiration is nearly boundless. I haven’t had so much fun since I first discovered Borges.

Jeff is a two-time winner of the World Fantasy Award and has also been a finalist for the Hugo Award, the Philip K. Dick Award, the International Horror Guild Award, the British Fantasy Award, the Bram Stoker Award, and the Theodore Sturgeon Memorial Award. His books from Pan Macmillan, Tor, and Bantam have made the year’s best lists of Publishers Weekly, The San Francisco Chronicle, The Los Angeles Weekly, Publishers’ News, and Amazon.com. His short fiction has appeared in several year’s best anthologies. Novels and story collections by VanderMeer have been translated into twelve languages. In addition to his writing, VanderMeer has edited or co-edited several anthologies, including the critically acclaimed Leviathan fiction anthology series, Best American Fantasy, and The Thackery T. Lambshead Pocket Guide to Eccentric & Discredited Diseases.

He is also an extremely lucid and perceptive literary critic. He writes for The Washington Post Book World, Publishers Weekly, SF Weekly, Bookslut, The SF Site, Locus Online, and many others. As an editor, he is best known for founding the award-winning Ministry of Whimsy Press and its landmark anthology series, Leviathan.

VanderMeer’s latest novel, Shriek: An Afterword, is now out in the U.S. (Tor). He is currently co-editing a series of anthologies with his wife, Ann (who is also the fiction editor of Weird Tales).

Outside of his own writing projects, Jeff writes, edits, teaches and speaks on a freelance basis. He’s top of the line quality. If you need someone to critique your writing one-on-one, teach on writing-related topics at workshops or seminars, read to you from truly amazing fiction, or create/edit any number of different kinds of texts, he’s your guy.

At the new site, readers can find detailed information about his books and freelance services, links to online fiction and nonfiction, and a media section featuring audio, photo, and video selections.

The old blog will remain up as an archive.
