Congrats to Atlanta’s own John Suggs for this timely article in Mother Jones<\/a> on the so-called “Christian Reconstruction” movement and its influence in Washington. I’ve been following this disturbing movement for some time.<\/p>\n

“This is a faith in which religion is not an influence on politics; it is politics.”<\/p>\n

“In this worldview, the mandate for Christians is not just to live right or to help their neighbors: They are called upon to take over or eliminate the institutions of secular government.”<\/p>\n

While you may want to defend Christmas and the ten Commandments, and all of that, you might really think about whether you want to live in a country where these folks have really gotten what they want. It’s where we are headed unless we fight back.<\/p>\n

Still not seeing what’s happening? Look into the Chalcedon Foundation, their main “think tank” (no, I’m not going to link to it, Google it yourself!). Here are a few tidbits about the America these demons<\/s> they are working to create:<\/p>\n

A Nation Under God<\/a><\/p>\n

The Old Testament\u00e2\u20ac\u201dwith its 600 or so Mosaic laws\u00e2\u20ac\u201dis the inflexible guide for the society DeMar and other Reconstructionists envision. Government posts would be reserved for the righteous, as long as they are male. There would be thousands of executions a year, with stoning a preferred method because it would turn the deaths into \u00e2\u20ac\u0153community projects,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d as movement theologian North has noted. Sinners in line for the death penalty would include women who commit adultery or lie about their virginity, blasphemers, witches, children who strike their parents, and gay men (lesbians, however, would be spared because no specific reference to them can be found in the Books of Moses). DeMar told me that among Reconstructionists he is considered something of a liberal, because he\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d execute gays only if they were caught indulging in sodomy. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m happy to just drive them back into the closet,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Besides facilitating evangelism, Reconstructionists believe, government should largely be limited to building and maintaining roads, enforcing land-use contracts, and ensuring just weights and measures. Unions would not exist, and neither would unemployment benefits, Social Security, and environmental protection laws. Public schools would disappear; one of the movement\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s great successes has been promoting homeschooling programs and publishing texts used by tens of thousands of homeschooling families. And, perhaps most importantly, the state is \u00e2\u20ac\u0153God\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s minister,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d as DeMar puts it in Liberty at Risk, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153taking vengeance out on those who do evil.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d A major task for the government key Reconstructionists envision is fielding armies for conquest in the name of Jesus.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The article lays out some of the history, affiliate connections, even a couple of money connections but there needs to be a lot more coverage of this movement, which has “married Leninist tactics to the causes of the right.” <\/p>\n

Not so long ago, it actually seemed to be that we were heading into good days on planet earth. The Cold War was over, there was prosperity and scientific advance – the days of the Holocaust and the Crusades and the Inquisitions and the Witch Hunts were over. Will we ever get the message, or is this barbaric insecurity and hatred doomed always to reappear with God’s name across it?<\/p>\n

Hardhearted anti-christians, really. Jesus would think they were jerks.<\/p>\n
