{"id":969,"date":"2006-01-03T13:37:30","date_gmt":"2006-01-03T17:37:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.virushead.net\/vhrandom\/2006\/01\/03\/talking-points-for-soldiers-domestic-propaganda-program\/"},"modified":"2006-01-03T13:37:30","modified_gmt":"2006-01-03T17:37:30","slug":"talking-points-for-soldiers-domestic-propaganda-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.virushead.net\/vhrandom\/2006\/01\/talking-points-for-soldiers-domestic-propaganda-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Talking Points for Soldiers: Domestic Propaganda Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.capitolhillblue.com\/artman\/publish\/printer_7918.shtml\">Pentagon propaganda program orders soldiers to promote Iraq war while home on leave<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s part of what they call &#8220;Operation Homefront.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Good soldiers follow orders and hundreds of American military men and women returned to the United States on holiday leave this month with orders to sell the Iraq war to a skeptical public.<\/p>\n<p>The program, coordinated through a Pentagon operation dubbed \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Operation Homefront,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d ordered military personnel to give interviews to their hometown newspapers, television stations and other media outlets and praise the American war effort in Iraq.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>They even have &#8220;talking points&#8221;:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8211;Admit initial doubts about the war but claim conversion to a belief in the American mission;<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Praise military leadership in Iraq and throw in a few words of support for the Bush administration;<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Claim the mission to turn security of the country over to the Iraqis is working;<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Reiterate that America must not abandon its mission and must stay until the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153job is finished.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Talk about how \u00e2\u20ac\u0153things are better\u00e2\u20ac\u009d now in Iraq.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Another &#8220;use&#8221; of our military people.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Sgt. Johnathan Wilson, a reservist,  got his honorable discharge after he returned home earlier this month and he\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s not afraid to talk on the record.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Iraq is a classic FUBAR,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d he says. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The country is out of control and we can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t stop it. Anybody who tries to sell a good news story about the war is blowing it out his ass. We don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t win and eventually we will leave the country in a worse shape than it was when we invaded.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>One of the things that really struck me about Murtha&#8217;s statements was the idea that he felt he had to speak for our soldiers who weren&#8217;t allowed to speak for themselves.<\/p>\n<p>There are all sorts of ways to support the troops. I think listening to their narratives is a good place to start. Some of them need your support while they keep their mouths shut for as long as they have to do so. That&#8217;s a double burden &#8211; so I send this message out to you brave men and women:<\/p>\n<p>It won&#8217;t last forever. Someday you will be able to tell the truth if you choose to do so. Observe, think about what&#8217;s important, be our eyes on reality. Make what decisions you have to make as best you can.
