Ashcroft worst Attorney General Ever
Ashcroft Worst Attorney General Ever
Paul Krugman does it again. I do believe he is my favorite writer at the New York Times.
In this editorial, Krugman points out the deficiencies in just one area of Ashcroft’s job – the fight against terror.
Before 911, he was "aggressively uninterested" in the threat.
Post 911?:
Absence of any major successful prosecutions.
Lack of any major captures – while the anthrax terrorist laughs, the Critical Art ensemble is prosecuted for harmless bacterial art.
The memo from his department putting the president above the law with regard to torture, and widening torture’s definition beyond the Geneva conventions and other international laws.
Response to criticism? Withold evidence, and change the subject with dramatic announcements of threat.
He’s a cheap magician, using sleight of hand to refocus the admittedly short attention span of the American public away from his actual moves.
