Current Electoral Vote Predictor
Current Electoral Vote Predictor 2004
Today it’s Kerry 257, Bush 254!
I’m going to do my part against Georgia as "red" on election day! I’m hoping they are wrong on that one. On the other hand, a neighborhood grandma came to my door with her own propaganda kit – focused on the argument that (get this) Bush was the moral choice! Tragically, tragically misinformed Americans among us.
Thanks to Trish, the Liberal Mommy, I found this one at Judd’s Winning Argument, which in turn was snagged from the Program on International Policy Attitudes.
Bush supporters are wildly misinformed.
– 75% believe Iraq was providing substantial support to al Qaeda.
– 74% believe Bush favors including labor and environmental standards in agreements on trade.
– 72% believe Iraq had WMD or a program to develop them.
– 72% believe Bush supports the treaty banning landmines.
– 69% believe Bush supports the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty.
– 61% believe if Bush knew there were no WMD he would not have gone to war.
– 60% believe most experts believe Iraq was providing substantial support to al Qaeda.
– 58% believe the Duelfer report concluded that Iraq had either WMD or a major program to develop them.
– 57% believe that the majority of people in the world would prefer to see Bush reelected.
– 56% believe most experts think Iraq had WMD.
– 55% believe the 9/11 report concluded Iraq was providing substantial support to al Qaeda.
– 51% believe Bush supports the Kyoto treaty.
– 20% believe Iraq was directly involved in 9/11.
I also appreciated this take on Bush’s argument that you can’t win a war you don’t believe in fighting, also from Winning Argument.
"You can’t win a war you don’t believe in fighting" – George W. Bush, 10/6/04
It conflates two points. First point: knowing what we know now – no WMD, no collaborative relationship with al-Qaeda – it was the wrong decision to go to war. Second point: now that we are there, we have to win. In other words, it is possible to believe that starting something is a bad idea but recognize – once you’ve begun – you have to finish it. Similarly, if you’re pushed off a boat, you may not want to be in the water, but you still have to swim to shore.

Virushead, I appreciate the time and effort you’ve put into your blog post. I’ve been reading the Duelfer report as a result. Thanks, Doomar
Absolutely foolish. I am a Bush supporter and find your statistics on what Bush supporters believe to have no basis in fact. I would like to point out that Iraq had WMD’s because they had previously used them. Perhaps you have forgotten the Kurd’s. I suppose you believe the UN to be our best hope to dismantle dangerous enemies of the United States. Obviously you must be correct due to their constant and fair treatment of this country. They would never allow financial concern to superimpose itself over decisions of human rights, freedom, and criminal behavior. As you might easily guess, I will not be voting for John Kerry. Support of a pacifistic way of life no matter how much of a threat is present cannot be supported by free thinking people. He was against the first Gulf War even though our help was requested. Hmmmm Funny how it seems to work. America is wonderful when your country is overrun by madmen. It seems to change when we could use some assistance. This last thing if you dont mind of course, How many frenchman does it take to defend paris—–none it’s only been done by America and her allies of which France is not to be counted.

Not my statistics – take that up with http://www.pipa.org/OnlineReports/Pres_Election_04/Report10_21_04.pdf if you have an argument. Good luck on that one.
The WMD’s Iraq had were sold to them by the US – and yes Hussein used them while he was slaughtering Kurds. Um, we did too – depleted uranium. Whatever the status of their weapons program, we clearly went in on flimsy doctored prof at a time when we had more pressing concerns (or don’t you care about 911?, etc?)
I don’t necessarily thinks the UN is the end-all solution – we need relationships around the world – the UN is only one such grouping. But I find it tragic if hilarious that you talk of the UN as being more concerned with financial concerns than those of “human rights, freedom, and criminal behavior” – my God, what do you think the Bush administration is all about? Don’t you read the news? John Kerry is not a pacifist – where on earth did you get that idea? As for the first Gulf War, I really recommend that you do more research on the context. And of course your France-bashing is entirely crass and disgusting. I suppose you call yourself a Christian? Without France there would be nothing here but a set of colonies. They are the ones who came to our aid during the American Revolution. Man, I hope you have more understanding of nursing than you do of current events – and I hope that you have more compassion for other people than can be seen here. What hate mongers you are.
That first guy who posted two before me is kind of a jerk. No offense to him or anything, but why does he have to argue in such a sarcastic immature manner. Until today, I have been undecided. I’m 18 years old, registered to vote, and looking forward to it, I just havn’t done much research on the candidates until recently. I have been going to both republican and democratic websites-since I dont really know much about either-and it seems to me that, at least this year- the republicans are being especially hostile. Whats worse then this though is that they seem to be trying to be funny a lot. This isn’t a good idea when you’re not very good at it (like that other anonymous who posted a couple before me). My name is Michael by the way and I dont know much about politics, but I think that my views are mostly conservative. However, if this is what my party is going to be like this election I want nothing to do with them. Thanks.
