Since 1999 when violent conflict subsided in Kosovo, trafficking of girls and women into forced prostitution has drastically increased. Both the international organizations stationed in Kosovo and the local governmental authorities have failed to protect them.

In the past four years, since the outbreak of the Palestinian uprising (intifada), more than 550 Palestinian children have been killed by the Israeli army and more than 100 Israeli children have been killed by Palestinian armed groups. In the first ten months of 2004, some 150 Palestinian children and eight Israeli children have been killed.

Recent reports from Fallujah raise serious concerns that grave violations of the laws of war protecting both civilians and combatants who are no longer taking part in hostilities are taking place. Urgent measures must be taken to prevent further violations.

Please write to the US and Iraqi authorities:

  • expressing concern that war crimes may have been committed in Fallujah;
  • urging an open and transparent investigation into this incident, and that the findings be made public;
  • stating that US and Iraqi forces have an obligation to protect and provide necessary medical attention to wounded insurgents who are no longer posing a threat, as well as to civilians;
  • urging that humanitarian organizations, including the Iraqi Red Crescent Society, be given access to the city to provide humanitarian help to the civilian population.
