It’s still not the future

“I’d put my money on the sun and solar energy. What a source of power! I hope we don’t have to wait ’til oil and coal run out before we tackle that.” – Thomas Edison

I’m still waiting for clean cheap energy and the flying car, the replicator and the holodeck. The future sure changes a lot, and we have already had problems adjusting to the rate of change we’re living through. I can’t believe that armed dolphins could be on the loose in the Gulf. Then I read about a man stealing an ambulance to transport a dead deer. Your apartment doesn’t allow pets? Pick up a Nintendog. Naked people are protesting nanopants, and here’s a stealth chastity belt for those women you consider to be your property (or maybe that last one’s a joke, so far).

The energy situation is serious enough that Bush is actually asking people to drive less – although I haven’t heard of anyone taking another look at that horrible energy bill, nor is there any brake pressure applied to giving more welfare gifts to the ultrarich (oh, that theory about it helping everyone? not working).

I have an ambivalent attitude toward the future. I used to be very optimistic about it, but just lately I feel that we’re headed into very dark times.

I think I’ll go read a book with Ben. I feel the urge to feel a book in my hands.

  1. I enjoy this idea about armed dolphins. And that it is only an idea and no dolphins were harmed during the idea. I FLIP out if I think the animals (not being specific here) are being hurt.
