Take Action: Tell Your Representative to Oppose Dirty Air Bill

With oil and natural gas prices on the rise, consumers are facing high prices at the pump and a costly home heating season. Congress could provide needed relief by making our cars and trucks go farther on a gallon of gasoline and enacting other policies to save oil, reduce energy costs, and protect consumers from price gouging. Instead, the House will vote this week on an industry-wish list that would increase air pollution while doing nothing to help consumers. Please urge your representative to support the Boehlert-Markey oil saving amendment and oppose final passage of H.R. 3893, the dirty air bill.

Take action now.

  1. In 1965 (remember then? No? I wonder why?), anyway, in 1965, I stood next to Shell Service Station owner Don Butler and shrugged my (then very muscular) shoulders and said “‘See that”? I nodded at a 1965 Pontiac Bonneville.

Just as in the movie with similar lines, I repeated, “See that”? Don nodded his head.

I said, “Either it has to go or we have to go.” I did not have to be an astronomer to realize that we were slowly de-terraforming planet Earth, although I was a budding astronomer.

Don sold out during the “oil crunch” of the early 1970s, and repeats me quite often.

I don’t write this to say “I told you so,” but I told him so. Screw Congress. Don’t buy gas guzzlers, and telecommute if you can.

Let’s see. Where is my Albuterol? 😉
