Robert Detweiler Heilbrun Fellow

Robert Detweiler Heilbrun Fellow

Each fall, the Emory Emeritus College holds a formal reception to honor the year’s recipients of the Alfred B. Heilbrun Jr. Distinguished Emeritus Fellowship. After an independent committee review of applications, two fellowships are awarded to emeritus faculty in the Arts and Sciences. The reception provides the opportunity to honor the recipients’ continuing research and scholarship beyond retirement. I was very pleased to represent Emeritus Professor Robert Detweiler at the Emory Heilbrun Awards Reception on Thursday. Professor Detweiler (my original…

Tori Amos Rocked the Fox

Tori Amos Rocked the Fox

I’ve had the Tori Amos tickets since about an hour after they went on sale. Tori Amos and Kate Bush are my all-time favorites. Two of the Tori Amos “dolls” of her multiple-personality “American Doll Posse” made an appearance at the concert she gave at the Fox Theater in Atlanta Wednesday night. This concert was very different than Tori’s others. Less hypnotic reverie, more hard rock. Evidently the songlist is affected by the selection of the semi-archetypal facets of her…

Hubby Released

Hubby Released

Ok, I’ve been on pins and needles all night (and freaking out a bit), but my hubby finally has been released from detention at the Atlanta airport. So now, I’ve talked him into taking the expensive cab ride home. No way is he riding the MARTA…

Former Jehovah’s Witnesses – Take care, please

Former Jehovah’s Witnesses – Take care, please

I am becoming a bit concerned about the safety of former Jehovah’s Witnesses. When I received this latest email, I asked permission to post it. Reports of various annoyance activities toward vocal former Jehovah’s Witnesses seems to be increasing. I will try to do a post very soon about how things are heating up in the public sphere for JWs. Already Ex-JWs are demonized – at any sign of escalation, please never hesitate to contact the police. Barb and I…

Hubby Detained at Airport

Hubby Detained at Airport

He’s been detained. Detained at the airport. It seems that they are looking for someone with the same name. A common name. A very common name. The kind of name that makes it difficult for people to find him on the internet because of the sheer overabundance of information about people with the same name. It’s one a.m. his time. He’s tired and has a raging headache. We talked briefly, and he just has to wait there until they can…
