Saw George Carlin

Saw George Carlin

We went to see George Carlin at the Fox Theater last night. I wore black to honor his traditional uniform. It was a good time, but we noticed that his new rants are less specific. They probably will not “date” as quickly as the last one we saw. At 70, he was still great, but there was nothing really… masterful. His humor was on the gritty and sometimes gross side, but much of what I thought could have been the…

Ripping

Ripping

Our wealthy neighbors are developing some of their acres of property. The plans seemed ok – three houses instead of 20. We thought there would be a buffer zone, since the first house is back a bit, and away from ours. We live in at the edge of a forest, full of huge southern oaks and pines and some azaleas and really way too much poison oak. Well, the bulldozers came in. From the driveway/road back about 15 feet or…

Goodbye to The Rumbles

Goodbye to The Rumbles

I’ve been a member of The Rumbles since at least 2004 (it might have been earlier still), but I’ve decided that it’s time to leave the group. I’ve really enjoyed my time there and I’ll leave my spirit pages up for a little while in case members want to grab graphics or cheers or anything like that. Thanks everybody, especially Mystical Grrl and Kattails! Since I’m not competing any more, I’m also leaving the Web Competitions Topsite, Lady J’s Top…

New England Trip: Shopping in Salem

New England Trip: Shopping in Salem

Jan and I decided to meet at the Visitor’s Center instead of the Witch Museum. Once I saw the outside, I didn’t really want to go into it either. I dropped a ton of money in that town – but I love what I got. I’ve got them all…

Reading Chuang Tzu

Reading Chuang Tzu

Chuang Tzu (Master Chuang) was a witty and profound writer – and a bit of a curmudgeon sometimes. I love his parables, and his humor, and his mystical – yet very pragmatic – approach to attunement and freedom from conventional obsessions. He lived in China sometime around the 4th century B.C.E. He’s my favorite. You may run across different spellings of his name. This is how I saw it when I first started reading, but you will also see Zhuangzi,…

From a Current Jehovah’s Witness

From a Current Jehovah’s Witness

Once in a while, I receive a non-hostile email from a current Jehovah’s Witness. Why would a Jehovah’s Witness write to me? Well, sometimes just because of a simple desire for a safe place to vent, or because something that I’ve written has resonated, or because they don’t really feel that they have many – or any – other options. There really isn’t anywhere to go – without fear of reprisal – for caring spiritual counsel within the organization. JWs…
