Cooking as Stress Management

Cooking as Stress Management

I’m not a wonderful cook. Because the rituals of cooking don’t interest me very much, I haven’t learned how to make the things that I love to eat. I may have to reconsider. I’ve been making a monster lasagna today, and I discovered something. Cooking, all of a sudden, seems to relax me. I’ve had a strange couple of weeks, involving much more emotional turmoil than I can easily handle. I’ve been feeling fragile, tired, angry, sad. I’m not yet…

Rest in Peace, Molly Ivins

Rest in Peace, Molly Ivins

My longtime hero Molly Ivins is dead at 62 after a long, long battle with breast cancer. I knew it. I knew it when I posted a few days ago that she was in the hospital. I’ve had the virushead.net domain since 2001 (after hosting a version of the BabyBoo subsite from 1999-2001 on a free hosting site). Given that, it may not be that big a deal to have accumulated a million hits. It’s been more than five years. Only in the last couple of years have daily hits of over a…

Oh no Molly Ivins

My hero, Texas columnist Molly Ivins, has been hospitalized in her ongoing battle with breast cancer. Calling all benevolent deities – some healing, please. We need you, Molly. Get well.

Personal Political

Personal Political

Warning. This is an uncharacteristic post. I feel the need to write about something that has been haunting my thoughts since yesterday. It’s about a quick clip I saw on the news. I don’t even remember what they were talking about. George W. Bush and Laura Bush are walking toward a helicopter. The camera’s view is from the back and to the side, so that the view is a three-quarter view from the back – you can sort of see…
