Robertson’s God of Hate

Robertson’s God of Hate

Marion “Pat” Robertson – what a christian! I hope you can hear my sarcastic tone. Why does anyone believe anything this man says? All you have to do is look at litany of his previous statements to know that he isn’t even a christian: calling for the assassination of Chavez, suggesting that the state department be blown up with a nuclear device, on and on it goes. Perhaps he’s a little busy with his power-obsession, his mining operations and other…

Theocracy Watch

Theocracy Watch

Found a great site Theocracy Watch. I was particularly interested in a 2004 article by Chris Hedges, The Christian Right and the Rise of American Fascism. Here is an excerpt from the end, but the article is full of interesting (and somewhat frightening) background. All debates with the Christian Right are useless. We cannot reach this movement. I saw the first half of it anyway, and I’ll be watching the second. Fragments of the old and the contemporary – it all made me feel an odd mixture of hopefulness and sadness. Bob Dylan seemed so very fragile in…

Banning Gays from Clergy

Banning Gays from Clergy

Besides being unfair to a large number of current and future clergy, and extremely dishonest to the actual history of the church, banning gays would not protect children or impede pedophiles. This idea is wrongheaded in every possible way. Sexual abuse and domination of a child is the issue, and I find it very troubling that this very specific sort of act is ever used synonymously with homosexuality. A couple of the boys I grew up with were victims of…
